Ambassador Dr. Muawia Elbukhari participated on Thursday, 11 June, in the launch event of the Muscat Action Plan, held at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber in New York, with the attendance of senior international officials, diplomats, and representatives of peacebuilding and intercultural dialogue organizations.

The event was addressed by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, alongside senior UN officials responsible for intercultural dialogue and the prevention of genocide, as well as the Executive Director of the Network of Traditional and Indigenous Peacemakers. The gathering also brought together a number of Permanent Representatives and Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited to the United Nations.

Discussions focused on strengthening intercultural and interfaith dialogue, advancing peacebuilding efforts, preventing conflicts, and enhancing the role of traditional and community leaders in promoting peaceful coexistence and countering hate speech and extremism, in line with the principles and objectives embodied in the Muscat Action Plan.

شارك السفير الدكتور معاوية البخاري، أمس الخميس 11 يونيو، في فعالية تدشين خطة عمل مسقط التي انعقدت بقاعة المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي بالأمم المتحدة في نيويورك، بحضور رفيع المستوى من المسؤولين الدوليين والدبلوماسيين وممثلي منظمات السلام والحوار.

وخاطب الجلسة كل من António Guterres الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، إلى جانب عدد من كبار مسؤولي المنظمة، بمن فيهم المسؤولون المعنيون بحوار الحضارات ومنع الإبادة الجماعية، فضلاً عن المدير التنفيذي لشبكة صناع السلام من القادة التقليديين والأصليين، وبمشاركة عدد من رؤساء البعثات الدبلوماسية المعتمدين لدى الأمم المتحدة.

وتناولت الفعالية أهمية تعزيز الحوار بين الثقافات والأديان، ودعم جهود بناء السلام والوقاية من النزاعات، وترسيخ دور القيادات المجتمعية والتقليدية في تعزيز التعايش السلمي ومواجهة خطاب الكراهية والتطرف، وذلك في إطار المبادئ والأهداف التي تضمنتها خطة عمل مسقط.
