SARC at UN 80th GA side events

Dr. Muawia Elbukhari, co-founder of the Sudanese American Relief and Development Center (SARC), engaged in two significant events focused on combating modern slavery.

He first attended a side event during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80), which was hosted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with Foreign Policy.

Following this, he participated in a dedicated IOM webinar that delved deeper into the topic. Both forums highlighted the critical role of Islamic philanthropy—specifically Zakat and Sadaqah—in funding transparent and effective liberation and reintegration programs for survivors of modern slavery.

Dr. Elbukhari's involvement in these events underscores SARC's commitment to leveraging faith-based giving and the important role of diaspora organizations in forging sustainable solutions for survivors.
