On 14 July 2026, Ambassador Dr. Muawia Elbukhari, Founder and Director of the Sudanese American Relief and Development Centre (SARC), participated as a speaker in a high-level side event of the 2026 United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) held at the United Nations Church Center in Manhattan, New York.
The event brought together diplomats, academics, civil society representatives, and international experts to discuss the role of culture in advancing sustainable development, social cohesion, and peacebuilding.
During his intervention, Dr. Elbukhari emphasized that armed conflicts not only destroy infrastructure but also threaten cultural identity, historical memory, and the social fabric of communities. He highlighted that protecting cultural heritage and promoting cultural dialogue are essential pillars for reconciliation, rebuilding trust, and achieving lasting peace in post-conflict societies.
Drawing on Sudan’s experience, he underscored the importance of integrating cultural preservation into humanitarian and development efforts, stressing that culture serves as a bridge between communities and contributes to inclusive peace and sustainable development.
SARC is proud to contribute to international dialogue on peacebuilding and remains committed to promoting humanitarian action, intercultural understanding, and sustainable development for communities affected by conflict.
