Hope Flows in Khartoum: UMR and SARC Complete Solar Water Station in Al-Shihinab Village

KHARTOUM, SUDAN – February 2026 — In a significant boost to local infrastructure, the UMR organization (United Mission for Relief & Development), in partnership with the Sudanese American Relief and Development Center (SARC), has officially completed the construction of a new solar-powered water station in Al-Shihinab Village, located in the Karari locality of Khartoum.

The newly inaugurated facility replaces unreliable water sources with a sustainable system designed to provide clean drinking water to hundreds of families in the rural community. The project harnesses solar energy to power the station, ensuring that the village has consistent access to water despite the region's challenging climate and infrastructure gaps.

According to officials on the ground, the "Al-Shihinab Village Water Station" is part of a broader "Solar Energy Project" aimed at utilizing renewable energy to solve basic human needs. By moving away from diesel-dependent pumps, the station reduces operational costs and environmental impact while maximizing efficiency.

Residents of Al-Shihinab, who previously faced long treks for water or relied on contaminated sources, expressed relief and gratitude. The project is expected to drastically improve sanitation, agriculture, and daily living conditions.

Representatives from UMR emphasized that the completion of this station marks a milestone in their ongoing commitment to sustainable development in Sudan. SARC’s involvement highlights a collaborative effort between international and diaspora organizations to bring relief and self-sufficiency to vulnerable populations.
